Calypso Deep - acrylic on canvas |
Calypso Deep is one of my newest creations. I posted this on AKrauseStudio's Facebook page and my friend commented on how it reminded her of Hokusai's
The Great Wave off Kanagawa. This is a very flattering statement because I consider
Hokusai to be so inspirational. If you are interested in woodblock prints, then I encourage you to look up some of his work.

My painting was actually inspired by one of my all time favorite artists,
Arthur Rackham. Primarily, his illustration titled
Undine Lost in the Danube. I am in love with the line quality in his illustrations. I think I could sit and look through pictures of his work for hours.

My focus was to capture the dynamic movement of water with undulating lines. The vibrant colors really add to the feeling of moving water. I truly enjoyed working on this painting and look forward to the possibility of turning this piece into a series. Stay tuned.
